National Adoption and Foster Care Statistics: AFCARS

The Adoption and Foster Care Reporting and Analysis System (AFCARS) collects case level information on all children in foster care for whom State child welfare agencies have responsibility for placement, care or supervision, and on children who are adopted under the auspices of the State's public child welfare agency. Updated AFCARS data are now available on the Children's Bureau's website.

Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute Releases 2010 Intern Report

The 2010 interns from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) released the report A New Chapter:  Leaving Our Mark on a New Generation that highlights and discusses foster care legislation, such as the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 and the John Chafee Foster Care Independence Act of 1999.  It also looks at federal financing of foster care and gives recommendations on how to improve the system. Two Jim Casey Youth Leadership Institute Interns, Jeremy Long and Joshua Conner, were CCAI Interns and co-authors of the report.
